Getting ready for the 2017 season

by Lisa Mancuso

Since our last BE event in October last year Flynn and I have spent most of our time hacking at home with the odd schooling session here and there, so he’s had plenty of time to recharge his batteries ready for the 2017 season. And don’t I know it… he’s ready and raring to go now!

I picked him back up in the New Year and since then we’ve been having lots of flatwork and polework lessons, outings to Thetford Forest for some gallop training and have been doing some gridwork at home in preparation for some jumping lessons too. Over the next 6 weeks we have lots more lessons and SJ/XC schooling in the diary with the aim of doing our first Arena Event at Keysoe on the 4th March. Finances are tight this year, so the run up to this season has been all about training at home, lessons and clinics rather than getting out to any competitions; hopefully we won’t be at a disadvantage, but knowing Flynn, he always rises to the occasion when we’re at an event, so I’m hopeful!

Now that the nights are drawing out and February is upon us, our first BE event of the season is just around the corner – the plan is to start at Oasby in the BE100, followed by Norton Disney and Horseheath in April; our eyes are then firmly set on The Mistubishi Motors Cup at Badminton at the beginning of May.

Here’s to a fun filled 2017 season!
