Great Start to the Season
We had a great day at Keysoe Arena Eventing; Flynn was on flying form and produced a double clear for 4th place - not bad for our first event of the season!
This last weekend we were at the Eventing Camp at Somerford Park which was organised through the Aberdeen Riding Club. Unbeknown to be, my saddler, Poppy Webber from PeeWee Saddlery, nominated me for a funded place at Camp and I was lucky enough to be one of the four people they chose. We had a fantastic time concentrating mainly on Show Jumping and Cross Country training, but did have one flatwork lesson concentrating on our warm up technique for the dressage phase which was really useful. In fact the evening before we were lucky to have Alex Hua Tian come and give us a demo on the one and only Pye who is bound for the Olympics this year. Alex was brilliant (and Pye was awesome to watch), he concentrated on giving us tips and exercises that we could do at home to effectively warm our horses up, something that Flynn and I struggle with, so it felt like the demo was designed especially for us - very lucky! Suffice to say that the whole weekend was the perfect way to get us going for the season ahead; we have a one unaffiliated dressage and another Arena Event over the next couple of weeks, then it's all systems go with our first BE of the season at Oasby on the 12th March.
It was great to see Dengie Performance Horse Nutritionist Claire Akers MSc (Dist) and Area Sales Manager Hannah Atkins at Camp on the Sunday - they brought their weighbridge and came to give everyone lots of helpful nutritional advice which everyone really appreciated. They were both run off their feet all day! Flynn had a go on the weighbridge too, and it was good to hear that he was a perfect weight and we're doing everything right nutritionally at the moment...phew!
