Introducing Emily Notman
My name is Emily Notman. I’m twelve years old and a member of North Cotwold Hunt Pony Club. I have two 13.2hh, fourteen-year-old geldings – Take A Chance (Pete), who is bay, and Bailey XII, who is roan. Bailey has actually won the Dengie Winter League twice with his previous owners in 2009 and 2014. I got to the final in 2014 on Pete and was the youngest jockey there at just ten years old. I am relatively new to BSJA but managed to win two finals at Stoneleigh back in August on both ponies, also taking the prize for highest-placed Pony Club rider.
To prepare for the next stage of the competition, I have been having regular lessons with my British Show Jumping Accredited trainer Pauline Ricketts. She really gets me focused and gets the ponies performing the best they can and this is showing from the recent results I've had, winning at our recent outing and qualifying for the BS 128/138 Special 25 pony final at Pony Of The Year Show, see below for a clip of our winning round. The ponies have recently had their backs checked too, which is essential to make sure everything is in the correct place, and have had remedial shoeing to make sure they are fully balanced.
Dengie - Which Dengie products do you feed and why?
Emily - We feed Dengie Healthy Hooves as Bailey XII came to us last April and his old owners said he is prone to laminitis. Luckily, he hasn't had it since he has been with us so we hope we are managing his care correctly.
Dengie - What is your top feeding tip?
Emily - Always feed a balanced diet, as it provides essential nutrients to keep your pony in great condition and looking great
Dengie - What’s your best Pony Club moment?
Emily - I have a couple. The first is qualifying for the Dengie Winter League in my first year of trying in 2014 and being the youngest rider there at only ten years old. More recently, there was winning the Pony Club award at the British Showjumping Nationals in August, where I won the Highest Placed Pony Club Rider as I won the 138 Bronze League Final and had photos taken outside the headquarters with mascot ‘Pete the pony’. My pony’s stable name is Pete, so it was when Pete met Pete!
Dengie - What’s your most embarrassing Pony Club Moment?
Emily - Turning up for the Blenheim Eventer Challenge with the wrong pony’s saddle!
