The Dengie Winter League Dressage Championships by Maddie O’Carroll
I’m now back at home after an amazing weekend at The Pony Club Dengie Winter League Dressage Championships! Rooney and I had a great time. We arrived on Saturday evening and managed to watch the final rounds of the Dengie Open Grand Prix Show jumping. Rooney was a hero – he walked into to his overnight stable, scoffed his dinner (including Dengie Hi-Fi Original) and settled down for the night.
In the morning, the sun came out in time for us to warm up in the enormous arena and get our bearings. I was so pleased with our test, the movements came up as I wanted them to and Rooney was forward going and ready to dance. I couldn’t have been more pleased with him. We came second in our arena with 71.3% and enjoyed meeting Dengie Marketing Manager Lisa Wilson again when she presented the prizes from Dengie. This placing meant we were in the championship ride-off, so I woke Rooney up from his afternoon siesta and warmed up.
This time we were in the indoor arena, which was decorated by a large number of flowers and Dengie feed sacks! Rooney felt amazing and really came to life under the lights and did a very nice test in front of the two judges. I was first to go out of five and then we had to wait for the Novice ride-off to finish before finding out the placings. The Pony Club stewards came to “dress the winners” and I was very surprised when my name was called as the Reserve Champion for the second year in a row!
The standard of the horses and riders in the ride-off was incredibly high this year and it was great fun. This was a very friendly show and I loved every minute of it. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dengie for sponsoring the Winter League and to the Pony Club for organizing such an amazing competition.
I am now off to use my Dengie vouchers to buy Rooney’s Hi-Fi Original, before heading off to the British Dressage Winter Championships at Hartpury on Wednesday!
