Retired Racehorses Fuelled by Dengie

Jo Massey is the founder and Chief Executive of Racehorse Relief based in Cornwall. Racehorse Relief, founded in 2011, rehome between 5-15 horses per year and believe that all ex-racehorses should be given the best chance of a meaningful second career.

“I have fed Dengie for as long as I can remember, but our relationship with the company began when I acquired a retired racehorse about 13 years ago that I was really struggling to get weight on” explains Jo. “I called the Dengie Feedline for advice and then consequently arranged a visit with the Dengie Area Sales Manager who covered my area. Andrea gave me great advice and I ended up trialling Dengie Healthy Tummy for a couple of the horses before it was launched”.

“We feed the entire yard on Dengie products” adds Jo. “Generally, my favourite products are Alfa-A Oil for the eventers and poor do-ers or Healthy Tummy for any of the horses needing the extra digestive support as well as being my go-to feed for new horses on the yard. I also use Healthy Hooves Molasses Free for the good do-ers. The horses all love it!”

“Often when coming from race yards the horses are fed on cereal based, high starch rations and aren’t used to a high fibre diet so it can be quite a change for them, but they transition well and even the fussiest of eaters find a product that they enjoy” explains Jo. “We have found Dengie to be a great company to work with, always keeping us informed of new innovations in the feeding world and giving us the opportunity to try new products. Andrea, our Area Sales Manager is very knowledgeable and is readily available to give us advice when needed”.
