Meadow Lite with Herbs comes in a 15kg bale
Dengie Meadow Lite with Herbs is a straight feed and so can be used in the bucket feed to slow consumption of balancers, mixes and cubes which is beneficial for digestive health. Any level can be fed but between 500g to 1kg per 100kg bodyweight per day is a practical range when added to the bucket feed.
If using as a forage replacer – feed the same weight of Dengie Meadow Lite with Herbs as the forage you are replacing. Feeding 1.5kgs per 100kgs bodyweight will provide 1.5% of the horse’s bodyweight as forage per day on an as fed basis.
One large Stubbs scoop = approximately 250g
Vicky Littlewood and 30-year-old Marz have shared 23 incredible years together, with their proudest moment in 2025, when they qualified for the SEIB Search for a Star and Still a Star senior classes. Having suffered with laminitis previously, when Marz suddenly went of his usual fibre feed, Vicky needed to find a tasty, low-calorie option that was also suitable for laminitis prone individuals. That’s when her local feed store recommended Dengie Meadow Lite with Herbs, and they haven’t looked back since!

At only 3% sugar and 0.5% starch Dengie Meadow Lite with Herbs is a suitable feed for laminitis prone horses and ponies. It can be used as a total forage replacement if required, which can be really useful when only good quality forage is available.
Meadow Lite with Herbs is free from pellets and so provides more chew time than products with pellets in. To learn why chopped fibre matters and the importance of chewing click here.
Meadow Lite with Herbs is made from a soft, tasty blend of chopped grasses and oat straw to provide a low calorie (5MJ/kg DE) feed suitable for good doers and those prone to laminitis. In comparison Meadow Grass with Herbs & Oil is a pure blend of chopped and pelleted grasses with a high inclusion of oil making it higher in calories (11.5MJ/kg DE) and more suitable for horses that are in higher levels of work or those that struggle to maintain condition and weight.
Dengie Meadow Lite with Herbs comes in a 15kg bale. A Stubbs scoop holds approximately 250g, so we would expect each bale to supply around 60 scoops. If you are feeding two scoops a day, a bale will last approximately 30 days. Please note that our bales are measured by weight rather than volume so the number of scoops per bag may vary slightly depending on natural variation in the crops.
Yes, Meadow Lite with Herbs can be fed as a total forage replacer in place of the same weight of hay. More information on forage replacers can be found here but please contact our Nutrition Team for individual advice.
Hay should be replaced on a weight for weight basis, so 1kg of hay should be replaced with 1kg of Meadow Lite with Herbs.
Emma –
My elderly mini Shetland who has minimal teeth and suffers EMS along with Cushings is rather fussy at times and won’t eat a variety of chaffs. Meadow Lite with Herbs has been a big hit for her and is a great way of being a part hay replace for her.
Chloe –
I have a veteran warmblood cross and a young native pony on this and they both love it. Have been feeding this a while now and won’t be changing anytime soon.
Kerys Jordan –
Our 3 mares love this, we use it as a chaff to add to their main feed and as a boredom reducer if they are stabled. It’s smells great in the feed room too as an added bonus. Ours all have sweet tooth and the herbs seem to convince them that it’s sweet without the addition of sugar to their diet.
ZOE CHAPPELL –
Absolutely love this chaff and so do both my horses, they have EMS and are prone to Laminitis so this is a perfect feed for them! 5 * from me
