Alfa-A Molasses Free helped promote weight gain, without excitability

Not long after Isabella Rothwell purchased Ginger, he dramatically began dropping weight. It then became apparent that something wasn’t quite right, and his behaviour became unpredictable when ridden. After conversations with her vet and other professionals, Isabella decided to have Ginger scoped for gastric ulcers which came back clear. He then had a full lameness work up including nerve blocks and x-rays which found 2 of his spinal vertebrae had calcified and fused together. A treatment plan was discussed with Ginger’s vet and physio including 14 steroid injections down his spine and into his sacroiliac joint. He had three months off ridden work with lots of groundwork, long reining and hill work. Isabella’s vet also advised putting Ginger on a higher calorie feed which wouldn’t make him more lively.

“I have always used Dengie feeds and liked their products” says Isabella. “So I filled out a feed advice form on their website. The Nutritionist I spoke to recommended Dengie Alfa-A Molasses Free which is higher calorie but very low in sugar and starch. Due to it being based on fibre and oil it has helped promote weight gain and condition, without Ginger getting more excitable”.

Isabella is now back on board and has taken Ginger to lessons and pole work clinics. He has regular physio and saddle checks and has put back on the weight he lost. This summer, they are planning to go to a 3 day dressage camp, as well as attending their first dressage competition!
