How to feed Healthy Tummy

For horses at rest or in light work:

Healthy Tummy is a nutritionally balanced feed containing all the vitamins and minerals your horse or pony needs. There is no need to add any mix, cubes or supplements as long as you are feeding the recommended levels.

For horses in moderate and hard work:

Feeding a high fibre diet is essential should your horse be suffering or have had ulcers in the past. Healthy Tummy can be fed alongside Dengie Alfa-Beet to increase energy intake to meet the requirements of harder work. Healthy Tummy can also be fed alongside mixes and cubes to help counteract the effects of using cereal based feeds.

FAQs

Can Dengie Healthy Tummy be fed before exercise?

Yes, Healthy Tummy is a fibre feed so it is fine to feed prior to exercise. It works really well to provide a defence against acid-splash which can occur when a horse exercises on an empty stomach. Feeding a double handful of a chopped alfalfa-based fibre feed in the 20-25 minutes before you ride is recommended to help reduce ‘acid splash’ in the non-glandular region of your horse’s stomach. The fibre ensures the stomach isn’t empty and suppresses the movement of the acidic contents when the horse moves.

Is Dengie Healthy Tummy suitable for overweight horses with gastric ulcers?

Healthy Tummy may be fed in very small quantities alongside a balancer for good doers, but feeding the recommended daily amount will provide a higher calorie contribution so is not likely to be suitable for overweight horses and ponies. Instead, Dengie Ulser Lite is a great lower calorie alternative.

Is Healthy Tummy suitable for horses prone to laminitis?

Healthy Tummy is low in sugar and starch so is typically a suitable option for horses prone to laminitis who need more support maintaining their weight and condition. When feeding and managing laminitis prone horses or ponies, it is important to take the whole diet into account. Please contact our Nutrition Team for individual advice.

Do I need to feed a balancer alongside Dengie Healthy Tummy?

Healthy Tummy contains a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals to provide a balanced diet (alongside forage) for a horse or pony working up to moderate levels. When recommended quantities are fed, no other supplements or balancers are required.

Can I feed a digestive supplement alongside Healthy Tummy?

Yes, it is appropriate to feed an additional digestive supplement alongside Healthy Tummy if you would like to.

My horse Cash 16.2 Thoroughbred gelding suffered terribly with ulcers. After recovering I decided to try Healthy Tummy, this has been a gamechanger & I now have a happy healthy horse again. His skin & coat is also gleaming.
This is definitely the product he will be constantly on from now on.

I have a 15.3 8 year old TB, he’s your typical stressy type who loses weight very easily. I’ve recently put him on Healthy Tummy and found massive improvements in not only his weight but also his nature, he’s much less stressy and his poo’s have really firmed up too!
It’s a super quality feed without a super massive premium!

  3. Diana Finch

I fed Healthy Tummy to my previous horse and it was a game changer. I now have a part bred Connemara who hated having her girth fastened, no matter how slowly it was done, and hated having her belly brushed, since putting her on Healthy Tummy she is not at all grumpy and is just much more settled in her attitude. It is truly a magical feed!

  4. Brea

I have a large young warmblood who was struggling to hold his weight but had no signs of ulcers, I had him on all sorts of feeds but decided to move him over to Dengie Healthy tummy after speaking to a equine nutritionist, after a few weeks I’ve seen a huge improvement in his weight/topline.
I now have our other 4 horses on Dengie feed aswell.

  5. Kerrie
